Desi-themed underwear from south Asian owned brands
In time for Valentine’s Day we share brands creating lingerie for south Asian women, either for bridal use or using material and designs from south Asia.
Pure Chemistry was started by fashion designer Dimple Rani and launched its first bridal collection in 2016 called Pure Rani which is full of lingerie and hand-crafted saris. The collection was designed to celebrate Dimple’s Indian heritage. In traditional Indian bridal colours of red, fuchsia pink & champagne gold, the collection is luxurious with fabrics like exclusive French levers lace, Italian tulle and Swarovski crystals. The brand is known for its bold colours like scarlet red, lime green, fuchsia pink and papaya orange. The designs are sensual and empowering with silk fabrics and lace inserts and will leave you feeling playful and strong.
TKC Design is a Canadian brand started by Taranjit (Taran) Cheema and her lingerie designs are vividly unique. From bras and bralets to bodysuits and baby dolls, there are a number of different items and all of them feature beautiful, traditional embroidary and embellishments on the fabrics and charming details like tassels, like those typically seen at the end of dupattas and saris, over the hips on thongs. There are even garters with zardosi-like designs. The brand is body positive and features models with different body types.
Created by Shirin, the brand aims to create luxurious lingerie for Indian brides, although they can be worn by anyone, of-course. Using the gorgeous deep colours of ruby red, emerald green and sapphire blue, the products invoke royalty and luxury. Made with silk, velvet, french lace and adorned with Swarovski crystals, the lingerie will make you feel glamourous. The crystals sit on the bra, suspender belt and brief, creating a line of decadence. All the products are handmade and have been modelled by south Asian women.
