British Asian singer Asha Gold is a rising star
19 year old south Asian singer Asha Gold is no stranger to being dubbed a rising star. BBC RJ Annie Mac, known for her show that introduces people to new music has played a track of Asha’s, in 2021 she was named one of Spotify’s Freshest Finds and today she is being spotlight by Pizza Express as a rising star.
The eatery has teamed up with the charity Nordoff Robbins, which is a music therapy centre in London and has a number of music therapy outreach projects nationwide, to produce a video series called Behind the Base in which rising UK music talent talk about the power music has had on their lives whilst recreating their favourite pizza from the menu.
As a part of Veganuary, this month’s episode will focus on Asha, who is a vegan artist. She is best known for blending silky pop melodies with contemporary R&B production and has featured on the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra, BBC Asian Network and KISS FM. Pizza Express restaurants will also play a curated ‘Plant-based Pop’ playlist features only vegan artists, including Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Anderson Paak, Ellie Goulding and Moby.
